Stage 6 Health & Fitness was opened by current owner and head trainer, Matt Rutley, in 2014. The initial light bulb moment occurred several years beforehand when Matt was playing rugby and coaching boxing in Chicago in 2010. Matt wanted to build a gym for people who didn't really fit in at a normal gym - a bit of a playground where people could explore movement, strength, fitness and martial arts concepts without worrying about Instagram likes and big egos.

Fast forward a few years (and a lot of planning, saving and hard work) and Stage 6 opened its doors in June 2014. Matt and his wife, Amelia, built Stage 6 from the ground up. There's not much around the place that hasn't been built, painted, designed, recycled or repurposed by the pair of them with the help of some deadset legends along the way.

In June 2017, Stage 6 moved to its new, fancier location at 23 Nundah Street, Nundah.

At Stage 6, we're less neon and more wood-grain, and that's just the way we like it.

"No citizen has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training.

What a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable."
